There are deposits and mines.
Although amber has been found throughout  the world, there are two most important areas where amber is mined commercially: the shores of the Baltic Sea and the Dominican Republic. About 90% of the world's amber is Baltic amber deposited in Sambian peninsula near Yantarnyi, Russia (former Palmnicken, East Prussia) alone. Baltic amber is also found in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Poland. It occurs amber is washed up ashore in Denmark, Norway, and England.

Amber is also commercially extracted in Mexico, Ukraine, Myanmar, and New Jersey (U.S.); however, significantly less in quantity.
